Can there be a more romantic location to make a living as a photographer than the African wilderness? Wildlife photographer Andy Biggs is doing just that. His diverse business mixes photography safaris and workshops with stock and fine art photo sales. More impressive still is the fact that Andy only started taking photos eight years ago.

Jumpgallery: Promoting Photography Online
Online promotion works best when imagination and innovation combine to create a remarkable idea. Seven London based photographers did just that.

Many photographers never use their websites for anything more than displaying some photos and posting a bio page. But for the professional or aspiring pro, a website can form a key part of their self-promotion strategy, and even generate income directly from sales of prints or stock images.
The goal of any commercial photographer should be to have an innovative website that’s simple to navigate and with content that gets people talking. One group of young photographers have done just that.

Photojournalist Charlie Mahoney documented the lives of African immigrants living rough on the streets in Barcelona for his Living in the Shadows project.

Thousands of Africans enter Europe every day looking for a better life. Some of them end up in Barcelona’s streets, unable to be repatriated, but without residency or the legal permits they need to work. I saw photojournalist Charlie Mahoney’s story on these people – Living in the Shadows – on the BBC website and was immediately intrigued. I’ve been to Barcelona several times but knew nothing about the lives of these unfortunate people. I decided to ask Charlie some questions about his career and the thought processes behind the story.

Cat Vinton won the 2007 Travel Photographer of the Year Competition with her amazing photos of the nomadic tribes the Sami and the Mongols in Norway and Mongolia. Her interest in foreign cultures started when she spent the first two years of her photography career in Laos, before moving to London. I asked her about Laos and her photographic projects ‘Nomadic Souls’ and ‘Red Shoes’.
